International Call for Abstracts

Abstract submissions are now invited for the XVII ISSHP World Congress 2010.

Please read the following information before submitting an abstract.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Abstracts should be no more than 300 words in length.
  • With each abstract, a brief biographical paragraph describing the presenting author of no more than 50 words in length is required for the use of session chairpersons for introducing presenters where appropriate.
  • Abstracts should be as informative as possible, and contain the data to be presented, rather than a promise of what will be presented.
  • Abstracts should be structured in such a way as to include a Background, Aims, Methods, Results and Conclusion, or similar arrangement.
  • References and tables may be included within abstracts however graphs, illustrations and diagrams are not permitted.
  • Abstracts will be assessed by the Congress Scientific Program Committee, and if selected for presentation at the Congress, will be published in the ISSHP journal “Hypertension in Pregnancy” in conjunction with the Congress.
  • Please note that abstracts may require editing of re-formatting for this journal publication.
  • Assessment criteria for abstracts will include originality of content, relevance to Congress delegates, clarity of aims and methods, and significance of results and conclusions.
  • All abstracts should be written in English and carefully checked for spelling and grammar.
  • All abstracts must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format. Faxed or hard copy submissions will NOT be accepted.
  • The closing date for submission of abstracts will be 30 April 2010. Submissions received after this date may not be considered.
  • Notification of acceptance of abstracts for presentation at the Congress will occur by 15 June 2010.
  • Authors whose abstracts are accepted for presentation at the Congress will be provided with guidelines to assist in the preparation of their presentations.


Please note:
previous presentation of an abstract at a national meeting does not preclude its submission for consideration for presentation at this international Congress.

Types of Presentations

Oral Presentations

These will be of 10 minutes duration with up to 5 minutes for questions and discussion. These time constrains will be strictly enforced.

Poster Presentations

Posters will be on display during the meeting and delegates will be invited to view the posters and discuss them with the authors during the lunch breaks, which have been timed and sited to allow for both lunch and convenient poster viewing. Authors will be expected to make themselves available at their posters at the designated times during these periods.

Delegates submitting abstracts will be invited to express a preferred presentation format – oral, poster or either.

The Scientific Program Committee will determine whether an abstract is accepted for oral of poster presentation.

Abstract Terms and Conditions

  • There will be no paper submissions. If you cannot submit electronically, please contact the Congress Managers for possible alternatives.
  • There is no fee for submitting an abstract and you can submit as many as you wish.
  • The abstract must be presented by the specified presenting author(s). Proxies will not be permitted except in an emergency such as illness or misadventure.
  • The first author (as given on the abstract submission form) will be the main contact for all correspondence about the presentation.
  • It is required that the online abstract template is used. Please download the relevant submission template from the Congress website.
  • The presenting author will receive notification of acceptance by 15 June 2010.
  • Presenters must confirm acceptance of their presentation offer in writing via email to the Congress Managers by 22 June 2010.
  • Presenters must then register to attend the Congress having confirmed their acceptance.
  • Registration is a condition of accepting the offer to present at the Congress. Presenters must register by 22 June 2010 to obtain the early bird registration rate and to ensure their place in the program. A day pass will be the minimum requirement – no session passes will be distributed for presenters wanting to present and depart.
  • By submission of an abstract, the author transfers copyright ownership to the Congress Managers for publication in the ISSHP journal.
  • The Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to accept or refuse any presentation.
  • The Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to allocate a session time or presentation type.
  • No correspondence with authors will be entered into, except for acknowledgment and rejection or acceptance notices.
